Mateo Pizarro is an artist from Colombia who’s graphite drawings are scarcely larger than the length of a match, but contain enough detail to suggest entire stories. Pizarro also explores more offensive and unsettling images in a collection of hybrid creatures named Bestiary of Improbable Animals.
The Colombian artist refers to these as his Micro-Barroque series, and while the images shown here seem focused on the incredible detail contained in small spaces. Pizarro states that “At the time of the writing of most of these texts, many mythological creatures were just as real as cats, wolves, or giraffes. Also, I am of the opinion a giraffe, for example, is just as improbable as any seaport or unicorn.”
