Lleida, Spain based artist and illustrator Sonia Alins depicts several women immersed almost completely underwater, just a head or foot poking out from the uncertain depths of cloudy liquid. Sonia’s art is a personal well-mixed combination of surrealism and visual poetry. Her artworks are her thoughts, her fears, her feelings and her desires, transformed into art pieces.
She develops a conceptual narrative full of delicate details, with her own language and always exploring new ways of expression. A haunting tension emerges not only from the clever split view created by utilizing translucent paper to mimic water, but also from the slightly ambiguous situation of the figures.
It’s not always immediately clear if the women are swimming or drowning. Here are some of the Somber illustrations by Sonia Alins. You can follow more of Sonia work on Instagram and her official website.
