It seems wearable technology is inching its way even closer to the surface of our bodies. Samsung has been granted a patent in South Korea for contact lenses that can project images directly into the wearer’s eyes. And a built-in camera with sensors will take pictures just by blinking. The contact lens will use the antenna to link up to a smartphone, which processes the image sent into the eyes.
The contact lens design would alleviate one drawback users complained about with Google Glass in that the lenses would be invisible to others and the wearer can avoid looking awkward in public. On the other hand, Glass wearers received a lot of push-back due to privacy concerns. We have yet to see if smart contact lenses end up eliciting the same concern.
